Interview Questions

Can you describe your current role?

Executive Board Member SIX and Head of the Financial Information business unit. Mainly this is about leading and building the SIX data business, demystifying data and getting excited about the power of data in general. I am also on the Board of Directors of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME), Madrid since the summer 2020.

How long have you been in your current role?

Since January 2020. I moved from London to Zurich to take up this position.

What do you like best about your job?

Key ingredients for me are:

  • It is a global role running a global business, I love the international nature of the role
  • I am a member of the executive board, shaping the SIX business as a whole
  • I am surrounded by great people with huge expertise
  • SIX has wonderful data assets – I see opportunity everywhere, both within Financial Information and across the Group
  • Our clients are supportive and really engaged – providing great inspiration
  • I live in Switzerland, pretty cool.. and I can improve my German and French

What is the most exciting project you’ve worked on in your career so far? Why?

Actually what I am doing now. I love the strategic nature of the role at board level, leveraging the assets across the SIX Group including the exchange, post trade, financial information and banking services. The recent acquisitions of BME (Spanish stock exchange), and Orenda (AI-powered, actionable ESG data) and most recently Ultumus (ETF and index data specialists) are adding huge value. We are growing our business and it is a lot of fun.

What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on in your career so far? Can you describe it?

In a previous role, I spent 4 years in Bangalore as a General Manager building up an operations centre from scratch to over 2000 people for Reuters (as it was at the time). I moved there with a young family and the centre operated 24/7 so no matter what time I was in the office, everyone assumed I was doing their particular shift hours. It was an amazing experience and a fantastic role, but I learned all there is to know about work/life balance then!

If you weren’t working in your current role, what would you want to do?

I really have no idea. But from early on I wanted to be in an international environment, so that remains a prerequisite.

What is the best advice you’ve received?

  • Surround yourself with people who give you energy, rather than sap it.
  • And a simpler one, take your birthday and those of your loved ones as holiday – it avoids the stress of trying to get home on time.
