February 2025 EDM Council U.S. Public Sector Forum Meeting Recap

The EDM Council Public Sector Forum meeting on February 26th discussed the creation, development, and use of the GAO Fraud Ontology. The GAO Fraud Ontology was released as part of GAO’s Antifraud Resource and is a conceptual framework designed to provide a common language for defining fraud terms across the federal government.

The ontology was developed with EDM Council’s Data Innovation Lab after initial work by GAO to address the extent of fraud in the government showed that there was no consensus on the terminology used to describe it. The presentation highlighted the structures of ontologies and showed examples of how classes, subclasses, individuals, and properties connect in the GAO Fraud Ontology. The presentation also guided using the ontology in the application Protégé and through SPARQL querying. Included are more resources for those interested in learning more about ontologies.
